Focus on The Responsibilities, Not Achievements

This is one of the most frequent mistakes — instead of focusing on their achievements in the previous job, candidates focus on their responsibilities. This tactic is wrong. Itemizing the responsibilities that you had does not tell the employer how well you did the job.

Include Irrelevant Work Experience

Another common mistake that many job applicants make is that they include irrelevant work experience in their resumes. Their resume contains every job, including part-time jobs during high school. Including something like this demonstrates laziness and a lack of understanding.

Include Obvious Skills

Such skills as PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and Excel are not considered special anymore. Today, most employers assume that good applicants have these skills anyway. For this reason, it is better to list more advanced skills, such as Google Analytics, Salesforce, SQL, and others.

List Hobbies and Personal Interests

Unless the interests and hobbies are related to the job you are applying for, it is better not to include them. Potential employers do not need to know that you like watching The Big Bang Theory and do knitting. Employers prefer to know their employees better after they hire them.

Make a Resume Too Long

Most hiring professionals recommend not to make resumes longer than 2-3 pages. It is important to remember that most HR managers receive and read dozens of resumes every day. Therefore, it is important to make your resume as short as possible, label certain sections, and include bullet lists.
